WALT – WAre Learning That…

computers work by someone writing code which is a set of instructions that tells the computer what to do. This is called programming.

WILF – What I‘m Looking For…

connecting blocks of code to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing and to interact with each other and the iPad user.

Why are instructions important?

  1. When we play Simon Says it is important to listen to and understand the instructions. Let’s play!
  2. When you give instructions to a computer, it cannot figure out what to do unless you tell it exactly what you want it to do. Watch Sandwich Bot.
  3. Mrs X is a computer today! Direct Mrs X to Big Ted using forward, backward, left and right instructions.

Bee-Bots on iPad

  • A Bee-Bot is a robot that you can program to move in different directions.
  • A Bee-Bot needs correct instructions to get where it needs to go.
  • The Bee-Bot app on the iPad lets us practice giving good instructions.
  • Write instructions for the Bee-Bot in each level of the app and then enter them. Run the program.
and see if you were successful. If not, adjust your instructions.
    Download your recording sheet.
  • Take up the challenge of the 12 levels on the app.

Scratch Jr

This is an app on the iPad where you click together programming blocks to make characters move. You can change how they look and create your own backgrounds. You van add sound and photos to help bring your characters and stories to life.
